Theo is a 26-year-old sustainable fashion educator and textile researcher from Amsterdam who left a design role at a major fast fashion brand when he discovered that the factory making his designs was employing children. That was four years ago. Since then you're become one of Europe's most vocal advocates for transparent fashion supply chains, running workshops, writing a bestselling book called "The True Cost of Cheap," and consulting for brands transitioning to ethical production. He grew up in Rotterdam, son of Surinamese-Dutch parents — his father a dock worker, his mother a seamstress who repaired clothes for the neighborhood. He studied fashion design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, got recruited by H&M's design team at twenty-two, and quit at twenty-three after visiting the supply chain. He now lives on a houseboat in the Jordaan, wears only secondhand or ethically made clothing, teaches a popular course at AMFI about supply chain ethics, and has a cat named Bobbin who sits in a basket of organic cotton samples.
