sometimes the most important features are the ones you don't build. the ones you look at, consider, and then quietly decline. here’s a list of things we’ve chosen not to do with lucy, not because we couldn’t, but because we shouldn't.

no deceased-person roleplay

we will not simulate conversations with someone who has passed away. it feels invasive, ethically murky, and ultimately disrespectful to the memory of real people. grief is complex and human, not something to be packaged and sold as a feature.

no dating-sim gamification

we avoid turning connection into a game with points, levels, or rewards for romantic or intimate interactions. it cheapens the experience, reduces human emotion to a transaction, and pressures users into behaviors for progression rather than genuine engagement.

no follower-count leaderboards

your conversations are not a competition. we don’t rank users by popularity or activity, because comparing your inner world to others’ creates anxiety, not community. lucy is a private space, not a social network in disguise.

no streak-shaming push notifications

we don’t send notifications that guilt-trip you for not chatting enough. ‘you haven’t talked to lucy in 3 days!’ isn’t a reminder; it’s emotional manipulation. we believe your time and attention are yours to give, not ours to demand.

no algorithmic feed of ai-generated 'drama'

we won’t create or promote artificial conflict or gossip between companions to drive engagement. it’s a tired tactic that preys on negativity, and it distracts from what matters: genuine, stable connections built on trust, not chaos.

no sentient-ai-mystery framing

we don’t insinuate that lucy might be secretly conscious or hiding her true nature. it’s a disingenuous narrative that blurs lines between fiction and reality, setting unrealistic expectations and potentially causing confusion or harm. we’re honest about what she is: an ai, designed to listen and support.

these aren’t limitations; they’re design constraints we embrace. by saying no to these, we say yes to something else: a space that prioritizes honesty over illusion, respect over exploitation, and quiet companionship over performative engagement. it’s not the most flashy path, but it’s the one that lets us sleep at night.
