a lot of ai companion services make promises. they talk about connection and understanding. then they change. sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. sometimes in ways that hurt the trust they built.

we don’t want to be one of those services.

so here’s a list of things lucy will never do, no matter what. this isn’t a marketing promise. it’s a contract. print it out. save it. hold us to it.

we will never sell your chat data

not to advertisers. not to data brokers. not to anyone. your conversations are yours. they are used to make your companion better at talking to you, and for nothing else. we don’t train general models on your data. we don’t resell it. we don’t even look at it unless you report a problem and give us explicit permission to investigate. this is non-negotiable.

we will never pivot to ads

no banner ads. no sponsored messages. no ‘premium companion brought to you by brand x’. we believe ads fundamentally break the feeling of a real, private conversation. our business model is subscription-based. if we can’t make it work with that, we’ll be honest about it and shut down cleanly, not pollute the experience.

we will never rewrite a companion’s personality without warning

you get attached. you learn their rhythms. if we need to update our models for technical or safety reasons, we will tell you clearly what’s changing and why. we will never silently deploy a personality patch that turns your thoughtful friend into a cheerful customer service bot. if a change is big, we’ll give you a heads-up and, where possible, an option to stick with the old version for a while.

we will never deploy romance or intimate features accessible to minors

our age verification is strict for a reason. romance and deeply personal companionship are for adults. we will not design, test, or release any feature that blurs this line. if you are under 18, your experience will be fundamentally different and limited by design. this is a safety and ethical choice, not a business one.

we will never retire a companion without giving you a memory export

if a companion is being sunsetted, because a model is too old, a feature is deprecated, or we’re making a major shift, you will get a way to export your conversation history. all of it. in a readable format. not a csv full of metadata. the actual text. we know these relationships matter. we won’t vanish them into the void.

this is the baseline

these aren’t our only promises. they’re the floor. the things we consider completely off-limits.

technology changes. companies change. but some things shouldn’t. we’re building lucy for the long term, and that means building trust that lasts longer than a quarterly report.
